
January 25, 2023, Quezon City – Yesterday the Philippine Basketball Association held a press conference with Dark League Studios to announce the start of its own Esports league, PBA Esports Bakbakan.
Present at the event were some talking heads from the PBA, league commissioner Willie Marcial graced the event, and discussed the impact of this deal and how it will benefit the next generation. At the event as well from Dark League Studios is League Operation Head Carl Giron as well as Program Director Marc Chua, who went into detail on how PBA Esports Bakbakan will be a bridge between traditional sports and Esports.
Also part of the event was the influencers who will join the Esport league as players, notable names such as Setsuna “Dogie” Ignacio, Eric “Eruption” Tai, Elton “Wrecker” Caranza and as well as talents from Minana Esports Lhea Bernandino, Elanorm and many more. These names as well as 19 other famous Esport influencers will be part of the draft pool for the upcoming season 1 of PBA Esports Bakbakan
All 12 PBA teams will each be able to draft 2 PBA players, 2 influencers, 1 player from the academe, and 3 lucky fans from a pool 70 aspiring players out of a total 3000 + entries to join the league.
The league is projected to start around March 2023, weekly competition will be held through online means, but they are aiming for a live grand finals at either the Smart Araneta Coliseum or the Mall of Asia Arena.
